A post on Maria J. Mauriello's blog (www.mariatalksback.blogspot.com) recently sparked a radio interview for an Anderson Creek, N.C. family. The post, entitled "Scoliosis, Miss North Carolina and Emily," recounts the story of a 10-year-old girl (Emily) and her family's battle with their health insurance company to cover Emily's scoliosis treatment. After researching and writing the blog post, Mauriello pitched the story to WPTF (680-AM) radio in Raleigh as an illustration of the need for health care reform. Prior to the family's appearance, the radio station contacted the health insurance company and, although privacy concerns prohibited a representative from appearing on the program with Emily and her family, WPTF put Emily's mother in touch with another contact to appeal the thrice-rejected claim.
